St. Mary’s Second Annual Chapter Challenge Food Drive Is On!
Start collecting canned and non-perishable food items to donate to our food drive and bring something Hacienda on every visit. This will again be a Valley wide Chapter Challenge and the winner holds the traveling trophy until next year’s challenge. Last year Hacienda HOG was second! Let’s be first this year! For us to do that, we need your help! We have placed collection boxes at Hacienda. This year you can also donate cash! Every dollar donated will count as one food item! If you drop your money donation in the HOG Kiosk at Hacienda in a sealed envelope (by no later than October 8) with your name and address clearly written on the outside of the envelope, with the amount also clearly stated, those envelopes will be provided to St. Mary’s on collection day and you will receive a receipt in the mail for your tax credit donation. Either way you win, you get a tax “credit”, not just a “deduction”, and St. Mary’s has more food to distribute to those who need it.
With the struggling economy, there is record demand at St. Mary’s. The Valley-based non-profit agency distributed 72.2 million pounds of food during its 2009-10 fiscal year. St Mary’s has said that is the most of any food bank in the country and is a 6.8 percent increase over last year. The agency distributed 399,167 emergency food boxes last fiscal year, more than a 100 percent increase over the previous year. The need is great and though some of our members are watching their pennies, there is always a little wiggle room to help those less fortunate. Will you help?
The last day to collect is October 8. The winner will be announced on October 12. There will be an escorted ride on October 17 from the dealership of the winning Chapter to St. Mary’s. More details will be provided later about this event.
The most needed items are peanut butter, tuna, chunky soups and stews, canned vegetables and fruit, fruit juice (plastic only), rice and pasta, although any non-perishable items is appreciated.
Start collecting today, from co-workers, family, friends, your favorite teller – it’s a good cause! Let’s go Chapter 97!
